A breath of fresh air

I got a breath of fresh air in two sences today. For one thing, a long time ago (last year or the year before that) I read this book called Pilgrim's Inn by Elizabeth Goudge. I had to stop. I hated the characters, the plot was stupid, and the only good thing about it was that the writing style was nice. I very much enjoy that style. So yesterday I picked it up again. This time I only got through one chapter. I really enjoyed the writing style again, but the characters and layout still bothered me. It took place during and right after World War II, in England. That's a hard time to read. So, I decided I would go back to reading Sence and Sensibility, sence I had formerly been reading it when I took up Pilgrim's Inn the second time. It was so nice, compared to Pilgrim's Inn. I liked the characters, the layout, the detail. This is by far one of Jane Austen's most detailed book I've read. This was the first breath of fresh air. The second was a real breath of fresh air. I was told by my mother to, in short, go outside. So I did. I gave Aidan a jump rope lesson, then we went in the pool. I haven't done that for days, since the weather has not been cooperative. This was quite a good day for fresh air. ***Dance class report: It's been an interesting week. Tuesday I was not to go to dance class, because the schedule was changing for summer. Instead it was to be on a Thursday. So both Hannah and I did not go, since we had both heard the same thing. We were, of course, surprised when we got a call telling us it had taken place on Tuesday. When everything was cleared up, it came out that kids had shown up on Tuesday because that's what it said in the program to do. Mrs. Reback, my teacher, of course had to teach them. It wasn't like she was not gonna have a class just because two students are absent. So the class went on. When we found this out, though, and told Mrs. Reback, she told us to just come in Thursday at the time we had heard, which was in the one o'clock hour. So we did, and we got a private lesson. It was cool. *****30th report: Read this letter I sent to the town board. It'll all make since: ********************** Dear Lucas, Thank you for you email. The decision to host the parade on a Saturday was done last year as well. Letters have been sent out and bands booked to march in the 2007 parade,. This is a highly competitive time to secure bands as so many parades are scheduled for town Independence Day parades throughout the County. However, we will certainly take your thoughts under consideration as we plan for 2008. Have a good day. ********Why was I called Lucas? Because I signed my name Lucia, and they did not read it properly. Duh. So, now we are celebrating Independence Day on the 30th. Tomorrow we'll have friends over, go to the parade, and watch fireworks. I plan on having tons of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!! See y'all later, Lucas.

Another week of acomplishments

Hey Y'all! I wouldn't say ALL this week was just me acomplishing things. But over the course of the week, a few things were done. On Monday I went to the doctor's office, and my mom and I talked to her for an hour or so. It was mostly about how we homeschool, because that topic seemed to interest her. Then I got a TPD shot: Tetanus, Pertussis (or Whooping Cough,) and Diptheria. I could have gotten two other shots, but we chose not to do that. My arm was sore for days!! Later that afternoon, Ian and I went and got our permits. Our working permits, that is. Then we went to the library and applied there. At least I did. Ian just took his application home. I got a letter in the mail later that week telling me their services were full at the moment, but they would contact me if anything changed. It was even hand written and signed by someone important over there. The next day my arm was aching like nothing else, and I had stomach pains, severe dizziness, throbbing arm pain, and a killer headache. I couldn't get off the couch. It really hit me hard. That same day Annie and Ian went to the DMV and Annie tried to get her permit. But there were millions of rules and regulations you had to go over if you were over 21. So now Annie has to earn 6 points by getting different things before she can even take the test. WE WERE ALL WAS SO MAD. It was the stupidest thing I had ever heard. Ian got his permit, though, and he did his famous 'Ian Grin' when they were taking his picture. It's a super huge smile he does, with all the teeth and everything. Besides that, I didn't really do anything else. Bye Y'all; hope you have a nice fourth of July!

A bit lonesome. . .

Last week at dance class, Hannah couldn't come. She caught something at school, and ended up with a fever. Poor Hannah! I felt more sorry for her, then disapointed that I couldn't give her my book. I think it was a good thing, though, because that book needed A LOT of editing. That's what I've been doing all week. Editing. We also want to make the size of the book 5x7". That means I have to cut every piece of paper I print. It's very tedious. You know, I always thought the hard part of the book was writing it, but no. It's the editing, and printing. Dance class last week was pretty lonely, without Hannah. Believe it or not, she's about the only one I actually talk to there. I mean, I talk to the rest of the people, but she's the one I mostly talk too. Well, last week I talked to Rosy and Michael. Mostly Rosy, though. She's super nice, and she home-schooled!!! I feel happy about that because whenever anyone asks me what school I go to, I say I'm homeschooled, and so they don't have anything to talk about with me, since they no nothing about homeschooling. But Rosy is homeschooled, and we both disliked Happy Feet. Michael thought we were crazy, because that's his FAVORITE movie. But, whatever. Rosy is really the only one who listens to what I say. Ayelet and Bri are like, best friends, and they always talk with each other. When I try to get into the conversation, they seem like they don't hear me. Whatever, again. I gotta run! Lucie

Oh yeah!

You know what, I've never written a whole novel before. Never. But now I have. 'Honey hair', my first completed novel, was finished today. The main character, Margaret, has honey colored hair, like my friend Alex and I do. We have agreed it is the most superior color of hair. I'm very proud of myself, and cannot wait till tomorrow, because it's dance class. I've already printed up Honey Hair, and I'm going to loan it to my friend, Hannah, because I've emailed her the first chapters of it and want her to read the rest, though not through email. I'm so happy, I want to dance! (Thank goodness I will be dancing tomorrow!) The ever ecstatic, Lucie

Lilac festival

Today we went to the lilac festival. It was really fun! We walked through forest, fields, and paths. We went into the garden surrounded by battlemented walls that looked like a castle that was called the rock garden. We saw the reservoir and next to it was a very fat groundhog. We saw only three blooming Rhododendrons, but we are going back to Highland park in a week or two to see them budding. We got cotton candy and funnel cake, which we almost never do at festivals, so it was special. We got pretty thirsty, so I suggest that if you all ever go, bring something to drink! We took or family photo for Christmas, and saw my favorite part, the tulips. They're so pretty! I was in a big picture taking mood, so I actually took this picture of a white lilac. So it's a bona-fide lilac from the bona-fide park. I hope any of you that go have as wonderful a time as I have, Lucie

Dance class report

I know, I know, dance class stuff is for my other blog. But nobody checks that one except Annie and Ian, my siblings. They already know everything about dance class anyways, because I usually tell them as soon as I get home, so what's the point? I'm doing the dance class report on this one, for now. We all have to do solo parts in our routine. It's a really fun song, and I'm having a good time with it, except the fact that I can't do one of the spins. But whatever. Anyways, for my solo part, I'm doing the step that we named the Shirley Temple step, because it's complex and she learned it at age three. I can do this step pretty fast, and everyone likes watching me do it. I've never had a solo part before, so I feel a bit special with this one. I'm the first in the line of people to do a solo. It goes: Me, Michael, Hannah, Rosie and Jennifer, Yevan, and then Ayelet and Bri. Hannah told me afterwards that she liked my step best, because it was just the kind of complicated look she wanted for the dance. This is kinda like Hannah's dance, because like I said on my other blog, she's the king of New York in it, the song being titled, 'King of New York.' Yesterday, my Mom, Annie and I all went to the mall! It was super fun. I got a jean skirt, a super huge skirt that billows all out when you twirl, a beautiful bitter chocolate colored skirt, with a shirt to match, and a pair of jean shorts. There's one thing I hate

I hate being sick. There's nothing fun about it. I mean, not being able to breathe through your nose is so annoying! And then it getting sore from being blown so often. And then nothing coming out of your nose, though you're getting it sore trying to blow stuff out. And then there's the whole throat factor. I kinda knew I was about to get sick, because on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday my adenoids were restricting my breathing again, and that always happens now before I get a cold. So when my throat started hurting Saturday evening, I wasn't really surprised. Last night I had a horrible night sleep. I had found a dead bee on my window sill Sunday morning, and I was totally freaked out by that. Then with that thought in my mind, I went to sleep, and to add to my bee worries, I couldn't breath at all through my nose. So I woke up around 3:00 AM with this feeling like something was crawling on me. Of course, it was just my mind playing tricks on me, but still, I was completely creeped out and had trouble going back to sleep. Since I had taken medicine before going to sleep, I had the awful, awful taste of medicine in my mouth. When I woke up this morning, the taste was still there, along with the stuffy nose and sore throat, but I also had a headache. All these things caused me to wake up at 7:47 AM, and being homeschooled, that's pretty early for me. I had gone to bed pretty late last night because of the restriction of breathing through my nose, and so you can see I was pretty tired. Right now I'm quite tired, and wish I could take a nap, except that when I lay down, my nose clogs. I gotta go. Thanks for listening, Lucie

To answer Sarah's quetion about Totoro, in 1993 they came out with the movie, 'My neighbor Totoro' in the USA. That's the version my family liked, because the english dub was good. Then last year, Disney came out with a new dubbed version, with voices we didn't like. Also we didn't like how they changed some of he characters names. Everything summer-ish

Over today and yesterday, I think I've done everything I could possibly do that is summer-ish. I've jump roped, went on the swing, today I'm wearing a skurt (shorts+skirt), eaten popsicles, I've ran in the field, I did some bird-watching, done chalk drawings, played basketball, and gone on the trampoline. I have not, of course, gone into the pool, because we haven't opened it yet, and it has to be at least 75 to 80 degrees outside to swim. I'm having a great weekend, and I hope you are too! So Happy

If you have read my post 'So sad', then that's very good, but if you haven't, I suggest reading it before you read this one. I finished 'An Old-Fashioned Girl' last night and was SO happy with the beautiful ending, that it made up for the sadness of finishing the book. I've read this story before, of course, but I forgot how beautifully written the ending is. I will not say what happens, in case my readers ever decide to read this lovely story, which suggest they do. It's a romance, so if you're not into that kind of thing, don't read it. The book was published in 1869 and it's very funny to read what the height of the fashion was way back then. It's so impossible for me to think that this book was written around the same time as the Little house books, by Laura Ingalls Wilder, because one book (An Old-Fashioned Girl) took place in New England, while the other books (Little house) took place in the west. Granted, An Old-Fashioned Girl was written around the time that Laura Ingalls Wilder was born, which is earlyer then the actuall Little House books take place, because Laura was born in 1867, so she was only two years old when Louisa came out with An Old-Fashioned Girl, and of course none of the Little House books took place when Laura was 2. - Well, I'll bet your wondering why I never finish a paragraph on this blog, and just make it all one long one. It's because for some reason or another, the template does not include new paragraphs where I've put them while writting the posts. Instead, I'm just gonna use little dashes, like this: - Gotta run, -Lucie

So sad

I need something to do, so I'm updating. All I want to do is finish 'An Old-Fashioned Girl', but if I did I would have nothing to read later tonight. I'm so sad that I only have 30 pages left! I have this really sad feeling in my stomach, and I REALLY don't want my book to end. I REALLY DON'T. Well, enough of that. I might as well not think about it. I do have another book I can read, also by L.M Alcott, but it has what might be Autographed by her, so I have to be super careful with it. The book is called 'Eight Cousins' or 'The Aunt-Hill.' It is also an excellent book, and it has a sequel to it called, 'Rose in Bloom.' Technically, 'An Old-Fashioned Girl' has a sequel to it, but L.M Alcott I guess decided to just put the two together, or else her publisher did. So it's all one book. Oh dear! I'm talking about the thing again. New subject. My fingers are so cold they feel like they are gonna freeze, if I wasn't typing so fast. It's pretty cold out here in the new porch, called the library, because someone turned of the space heater and forgot to turn it back on. Oh well. I'm fine.
